NuMex Vaquero: The modern jalapeño from New Mexico

The NuMex Vaquero, an outstanding breeding from 1997, is the result of innovative work by Dr. Bosland and Dr. Eric Votava at New Mexico State University. This strain combines the best characteristics of Early Jalapeño, Jalapeño TAM and Mexican Criollo de Morelos 334 to create a robust and productive plant characterized by smooth, green fruits without the typical purple/black discolouration during growth.

Unique features

The NuMex Vaquero is characterized by its typical jalapeño shape with broad shoulders and a blunt tip, but without the corking that is characteristic of jalapeños. This property makes the fruit less susceptible to fungal infections, which is particularly beneficial in cooler weather. With a spiciness of 25,000 to 30,000 Scoville units, the NuMex Vaquero offers a balanced spiciness experience that makes it ideal for a variety of culinary applications.
